Doha: Al Sharq and Al Watan newspapers have published editorials condemning recent Israeli actions in Gaza and Lebanon, emphasizing the urgent need for international intervention.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al Sharq editorialized that the joint mediation led by Qatar and Egypt to restore the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip faces significant challenges due to the Israeli occupation's escalating aggression. The newspaper criticized Israel for its systematic starvation policy in Gaza, targeting food and medicine sources, and blocking humanitarian aid for over three weeks.
Al Sharq also highlighted a recent decision by the Israeli Supreme Court, which rejected an appeal to resume humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza. The newspaper argued that this decision demonstrates the complicity of Israeli institutions in genocide, with the judiciary acting as a tool to legitimize criminal political actions against Palestinians. It called for the international community to address the root causes of Palestinian suffering and to hold those responsible for genocide and violations accountable under international law.
Meanwhile, Al Watan's editorial focused on Israeli actions in Lebanon, criticizing Israel's claim of striking a building in Beirut's Al Hadath neighborhood as an excuse for continued aggression. The newspaper pointed to an existing agreement with mechanisms, such as UNIFIL's monitoring, to investigate violations, suggesting that Israel's actions indicate a deliberate attempt to escalate tensions. Al Watan reported that since the ceasefire, Israel has committed 1,289 violations, resulting in numerous casualties in Gaza, Palestinian territories, and Syria.
Al Watan concluded by urging international intervention via the UN Security Council to prevent further destabilization in the region. Both newspapers' editorials underscore the critical need for global efforts to address these escalating conflicts.
