Geneva: The State of Qatar has brought attention to the severe health conditions faced by Palestinians, particularly in the Gaza Strip, which has been under blockade since 2006 and has suffered significant aggression since October 7, 2023. The ongoing situation has led to a near-total collapse of the healthcare system, with widespread destruction of health facilities.
According to Qatar News Agency, Deputy Permanent Representative Jawhara bint Abdulaziz Al Suwaidi delivered a speech at the 78th World Health Assembly in Geneva, emphasizing that the deterioration of health conditions is mainly due to the actions of Israeli occupation authorities. These actions include repeated attacks on Palestinians, targeting of hospitals and health facilities, and restricting access to essential services such as water, medicine, and electricity.
Al Suwaidi highlighted the challenges faced by Palestinians, including discriminatory restrictions on healthcare access, movement restrictions, and inadequate care for Palestinian detainees. She condemned Israeli policies that violate international laws and emphasized the urgent need for Palestinians to access healthcare services.
She criticized Israel's disregard for international resolutions and called for the international community to take responsibility by applying pressure to halt these violations. Al Suwaidi also urged for international support to fund WHO health programs in Palestinian territories and to rebuild the health system in cooperation with relevant UN agencies.
The speech concluded with a call for countries to support a draft resolution addressing health conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories and the occupied Syrian Golan.
