Doha: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), the primary provider of emergency and specialized healthcare services in Qatar, has launched its Healthcare Strategy 2024-2030. This strategy is closely aligned with the Third National Development Strategy and the National Health Strategy 2024-2030, setting an ambitious vision for HMC to enhance its role as a leading institution in medical services provision.
According to Qatar News Agency, the HMC's Healthcare Strategy 2024-2030, launched in October 2024, focuses on three key objectives: Lead and Shape, Deliver Best Value, and Learn and Create. These objectives aim to set clinical standards, ensure safe patient treatment, achieve optimal clinical outcomes, enhance patient experience, and drive innovations in patient care through research and education.
Simultaneously, the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) introduced its third strategic plan (2024-2030) under the slogan "1st Choice for Our Community's Health." This plan aligns with the Third National Health Strategy and the Third National Development Strategy. It emphasizes improving health outcomes, enhancing service quality, facilitating patient access, and ensuring service sustainability.
PHCC's strategic plan emphasizes supporting priority population groups and aligning services to meet their needs, focusing on innovation in community healthcare, integrated services, and preventive health. The plan addresses the needs of children, adolescents, women, pregnant women, employees, and individuals with chronic conditions, disabilities, and those requiring mental health services.
These national health strategies and their supporting plans come amid significant achievements in Qatar's health sector, notably the expansion of public health facilities. The public sector now boasts 19 hospitals and long-term care facilities, and approximately 35 health centers, including six wellness centers, are spread across the country. The sector employs around 29,960 health workers.
A remarkable milestone was achieved about a month ago when Qatar conducted its first successful heart transplant by a local heart transplantation team. This accomplishment underscores Qatar's excellence in organ transplant programs and healthcare.
HMC's National Center for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR) has emerged as a leading cancer treatment destination in the Gulf region, drawing patients from across the region while providing world-class patient care.
Qatar's organ donor registry has exceeded 580,000 registered donors, about 28 percent of the adult population, with the number of living kidney donors doubling annually, boosting kidney transplants. In 2024, approximately 60 kidney transplants, 12 liver transplants, and one lung transplant were performed.
Recent achievements in Qatar's public health sector are the result of previous national health strategies and significant state investments to develop a flexible and smart healthcare system that ensures well-being and health for all residents.
