Qatar to Participate in 24th Permanent Expert Group Meeting on Arab Media Anti-Terrorism Role

Kuwait, March 12 (QNA) – The State of Qatar, represented by the Qatar Media Corporation, participated Sunday in the 24th meeting of the permanent expert group concerned with following up the role of Arab media in confronting terrorism, which was held in the State of Kuwait.

QMC’s Media Consultant Abdulrahman Nasser Al Obaidan chaired QMC’s delegation to the meeting. The QMC delegation will also participate in the two-day 98th meeting of the Standing Committee for Arab Media, due to kick off on Monday. The two meetings are preparatory for the 16th regular session of the executive office of the Council of Arab Information Ministers to kick off Wednesday under the chairmanship of the Republic of Iraq.

These meetings seek to follow up the implementation of the decisions issued by the 52nd regular session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, which was held in September in Cairo, a move seeking to give Arab media work more vitality and interaction in support of Arab issues, at various levels, starting with the Palestinian cause.

Among the items on the meeting’s agenda will be fighting terrorism and extremism, digital media, dealing with major digital international companies, in addition to draft guiding Arab legislation to regulate social media, and protect users from ethical and legal abuses of inappropriate content, as well as the inclusion of media education in educational curricula for Arab countries.

The meetings of the Standing Committee for Arab Media and the Executive Office will discuss a number of organizational issues, including the 2023 Media Excellence Award dedicated to the topic of environmental media under the theme ‘Climate Change and the Future’, which will be of financial value, for the first time.
