Doha: The State of Qatar has strongly condemned the decision by Israeli occupation authorities to shut down six schools operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in East Jerusalem, describing the deprivation of children from education as a new crime in the ongoing series of Israeli crimes in the occupied Palestinian territories.
According to Qatar News Agency, in a statement issued today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that access to education is a fundamental human right enshrined in international law. It warned against the politicization of education and voiced serious concern over efforts to diminish the role of UNRWA. The Ministry called on the international community to take urgent and concrete measures to hold Israel accountable and to ensure its compliance with international legal obligations.
Reaffirming Qatar's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, the statement underscored the country's commitment to a just and lasting solution based on international legitimacy and the two-state framework, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
