Qatar Strengthens Ties with IAEA for Marine Environmental Protection

Monaco: HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie met with Florence Descroix-Comanducci, Director of the Marine Laboratories of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), during an official visit to the laboratories’ headquarters in the Principality of Monaco. The meeting was held on the sidelines of Dr. Al Subaie’s participation in the Third UN Ocean Conference in Nice, France.

According to Qatar News Agency, the discussions focused on potential joint cooperation areas between the State of Qatar and the IAEA. The primary topics included strengthening the partnership in marine environmental protection and enhancing Qatar’s national technical capacities for monitoring environmental changes using cutting-edge nuclear and radiological technologies.

During the visit, His Excellency embarked on a field tour of the laboratories, gaining insights into the advanced equipment and analytical methods utilized to study marine pollutants. These technologies play a crucial role in supporting international efforts to safeguard oceans and seas from the adverse effects of climate change and human activities.

This visit underscores Qatar’s commitment to bolstering international collaboration in environmental protection. It also highlights the nation’s dedication to leveraging global technical expertise to enhance its environmental framework, aligning with the highest scientific standards.
