Qatar Secures Third Consecutive Seat on IMO Executive Council

London: The State of Qatar has secured a seat on the Executive Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in Category C for the third consecutive time. This victory was achieved during the elections held at the 34th session of the IMO Assembly in London. Qatar's continued presence on the council underscores its significant role in the global maritime transport sector and reflects the international community's trust in its efforts to promote maritime safety, security, and sustainable transport.

According to Qatar News Agency, HE Minister of Transport Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Thani expressed pride in this accomplishment, highlighting it as a recognition of Qatar's commitment to developing the maritime sector. He emphasized that Qatar's repeated election to the Executive Council is a testament to the leadership's strategic vision in enhancing the country's influence in international organizations and establishing it as a central maritime logistics hub globally.

His Excellency stated that this success mirrors Qatar's dedication to the International Maritime Organization's principles, focusing on safe, sustainable, and eco-friendly maritime transport. He affirmed Qatar's intention to continue collaborating with member states to boost international cooperation and share expertise, thereby contributing to the advancement of the global maritime transport system.

HE the Minister also expressed gratitude to the member states that supported Qatar's candidacy and acknowledged the contributions of national entities that played a part in this achievement. This victory reflects the cooperative spirit among state institutions in promoting Qatari achievements on the world stage.

HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the United Kingdom and Permanent Representative to the IMO Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Saud Al-Thani emphasized that this win reinforces Qatar's active role in supporting international maritime transport initiatives. He noted that Qatar's continued membership on the Executive Council reflects the international maritime community's appreciation for the country's advancements in port infrastructure, maritime governance, and marine environmental protection.

The Ambassador remarked that the renewed confidence in Qatar underscores its commitment to participating in international decision-making on maritime navigation and transport.
