Qatar-Saudi Arabia High-Speed Electric Train Project to Enhance Regional Connectivity

Doha: The high-speed electric passenger train project between the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia represents a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening cooperation and developmental integration between the two nations. This project is part of a broader commitment to sustainable development and aims to explore new opportunities for growth and prosperity in the region.

According to Qatar News Agency, the railway line will extend for 785 kilometers, connecting the capitals of Riyadh and Doha. The route will include key stations such as Hofuf and Dammam and will link King Salman International Airport with Hamad International Airport. The train is set to become a critical component of regional transportation, offering speeds of over 300 kilometers per hour. This will reduce travel time between the capitals to about two hours, thereby enhancing mobility, trade, tourism, and quality of life.

The project's completion is projected within six years, incorporating advanced railway technologies and smart engineering to ensure safe and seamless operations. It is designed to meet high international standards of quality and safety. Economically, the railway is expected to contribute nearly SR115 billion to the GDP of both countries, serve over 10 million passengers annually, and generate more than 30,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The high-speed railway will also play a role in promoting environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emissions and supporting the shift towards more efficient and innovative transportation solutions. This initiative stands as one of the region's significant strategic projects, reinforcing connectivity and integration among GCC countries.
