Qatar Reaffirms Commitment to Supporting Landlocked Developing Nations and Gaza Healthcare

Doha: In their editorials on Wednesday, Qatari newspapers addressed several prominent topics on the Arab and regional fronts. Leading the coverage was Qatar's participation in the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, which began on Tuesday in Turkmenistan, reaffirming the nation's commitment to supporting landlocked developing nations facing unique challenges due to their geographic location, particularly in transportation, logistics, and regional integration.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Sharq newspaper highlighted that the State of Qatar's participation in the conference reflects its commitment to promoting sustainable development. The Qatari delegation was led by HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Dr. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad. Al-Sharq noted that this engagement reaffirms Qatar's dedication to assisting landlocked developing nations, showcasing its initiatives through the Qatar Fund for Development. Last year, a $10 million contribution agreement was signed with the Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, aiming to support the Doha Programme of Action monitoring from 2023 to 2031. This is part of Qatar's broader $60 million pledge announced during the Fifth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries.

The editorial concluded by affirming Qatar's pride in its strong relations with landlocked developing nations and its proven track record in international cooperation.

In turn, Al-Arab focused on Qatar's ongoing support for Gaza's healthcare sector amid the Israeli occupation. The newspaper explained that Qatar's support has been continuous, providing medical equipment, medications, hospital support, and care for the wounded. This reflects a firm commitment to the rights of the Palestinian people.

Al-Arab noted Qatar's supervision of key health projects in Gaza, such as HH The Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics. This facility is an advanced specialist center for rehabilitation and prosthetic limb services, among others. Qatar has also contributed to the field hospital project by supplying ambulances, advanced medical devices, and developing local medical staff.

The editorial concluded by emphasizing the vital role of Qatari aid in ensuring essential medical care for civilians, including those targeted while seeking aid in northern Gaza.
