Montreal: The State of Qatar participated in the Ministerial Conference on the Human Dimension of the Peace Formula in Ukraine, held in Montreal, Canada. The Qatari delegation was led by HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater.
According to Qatar News Agency, Her Excellency Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater, in her speech at the conference, underscored the growing global crises that threaten the stability of nations and the security of individuals. She emphasized that the conflict in Ukraine serves as a stark reminder of the tragic consequences of escalating hostilities and the urgent need for sustainable peace. Qatar’s participation reaffirms its support for the 10-point peace formula and its commitment to diplomatic solutions, as it continues to play a mediation role in various conflicts.
Her Excellency highlighted that the world is currently facing an unprecedented era of simultaneous and escalating conflicts. She stressed that seeking peace in Ukraine is crucial not on
ly for regional stability but also for preventing further global escalation. The Qatari minister noted that every diplomatic effort and step toward reconciliation is vital for protecting all nations from conflict spread.
The State of Qatar has mobilized resources to address both immediate humanitarian needs in Ukraine and the wider destabilizing impacts of the crisis. In 2023, Qatar pledged $100 million to alleviate the humanitarian situation in Ukraine and allocated $20 million to the Grain from Ukraine program, which provides vulnerable communities access to Ukrainian food exports. Additionally, Qatar has offered 50 university scholarships to Ukrainian students.
Addressing the humanitarian dimension and the 10-point peace formula, Her Excellency mentioned that Qatar has acted as a mediator in reuniting children with their families, conducting seven humanitarian missions to achieve this goal. Qatar has also hosted humanitarian discussions with both parties involved in the conflict. The minister emphasized
Qatar’s stance on preserving dignified life for civilians during wars, stressing that war cannot justify infringing on civilian rights.
Qatar considers its humanitarian initiatives fundamental to achieving comprehensive and lasting peace in Ukraine. Prioritizing efforts such as family reunification respects individuals’ fundamental rights to stay connected with loved ones, aligning with Qatar’s values of compassion and human rights in diplomacy.
While focusing on Ukraine, Her Excellency urged participants not to overlook other humanitarian crises worldwide. She highlighted the dire situations in Gaza, Palestine, Lebanon, and Sudan, urging the international community to unite and address these challenges. Qatar remains committed to advancing peace, supporting human rights, and alleviating civilian suffering globally.
