Qatar Reaffirms Commitment to Nuclear Disarmament and Middle East Peace

Doha:Al-Arab newspaper affirmed Qatar's continued commitment to working with the international community to eliminate nuclear weapons and achieve both regional and international peace and security. The publication emphasized the importance of honoring legal commitments under international disarmament and non-proliferation treaties.

According to Qatar News Agency, the reaffirmation of this stance was delivered by First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Qatar to the United Nations, Talal Abdulaziz Al Naama, during the general debate of the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly at its 81st session in New York. His statement highlighted the necessity of full compliance with disarmament conventions and agreements and supported international efforts to cease nuclear tests and halt the development and modernization of nuclear arsenals and other lethal weapons.

Al-Arab concluded by emphasizing Qatar's ongoing efforts to establish a nuclear-free zone and eliminate weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East. The newspaper noted that Doha prioritizes nuclear disarmament as a key regional goal, viewing the total elimination of such weapons as essential for achieving collective security and sustainable stability.

In a related discussion on Arab affairs, Al-Watan newspaper marked the first anniversary of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, noting the absence of tangible improvements amid ongoing Israeli violations, destruction, and killings.

The newspaper reported that since the agreement's implementation, 1,450 Palestinians have been killed and 5,072 injured, with humanitarian aid still being blocked from entering the region. As a result, about 2.4 million Palestinians, including 2.15 million internally displaced persons, continue to face dire humanitarian conditions.

Al-Watan highlighted Israel's continued violation of international agreements and laws, including the killing and forced displacement of Palestinians, particularly children, women, and the elderly, in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. These actions have been characterized as war crimes warranting international prosecution.

The newspaper concluded by warning that the persistence of these violations is connected to the lack of effective international intervention to hold Israel accountable and stop its actions against Palestinians. It suggested that the Gaza ceasefire is under severe threat, especially as Israeli elections approach amid intense political competition.
