General

The State of Qatar participated in a meeting held today at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States to launch the report titled The Third Assessment of the Expected Social and Economic Impacts of the Gaza War on the State of Palestine, issued by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).

Representing Qatar at the meeting was Second Secretary at the Permanent Delegation of Qatar to the League of Arab States Ali Hussein Al Jarhab.

In a speech delivered during the meeting, Al Jarhab pointed out that the Palestinian people continue to face the brutal Israeli aggression on Palestinian territories, especially in the Gaza Strip, which constitutes a blatant violation of the basic principles of international humanitarian law and the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council. He expressed the State of Qatars condemnation of all Israeli occupation practices against the Palesti
nian people, which have exacerbated the economic and social conditions in Palestine, stressing the need for efforts to mitigate the catastrophic effects of this aggression on the Palestinian people.

He said that economic recovery in Gaza can only be achieved through regional and international efforts aimed at finding a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue and achieving a permanent ceasefire in the current context. He reaffirmed Qatar’s ongoing efforts, in coordination with its partners in the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States of America, to reach a permanent ceasefire and address the humanitarian impact on the Palestinian people resulting from this brutal aggression.

In conclusion, Al Jarhab emphasized that this long-standing conflict, if not resolved at its roots, will render any efforts to achieve economic recovery in the occupied Palestinian territories insufficient and short-term. He reiterated Dohas call for a permanent ceasefire and the achievement of a lasting solution to the
Palestinian issue
