New york: The Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of France, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), and the International Labour Organization (ILO), hosted a high-level side event entitled "Delivering on the Doha Promise: Promoting Innovative Solutions for Social Development" during the 64th session of the United Nations Commission for Social Development.
According to Qatar News Agency, the event was attended by several key figures, including HE Minister of Social Development and Family of Qatar Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, and HE Anousheh Karvar, the Representative of the Government of France to the ILO and Chairperson of the ILO Governing Body.
The meeting took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York and was attended by senior ministers and UN officials, such as HE Minister of Social Affairs and Health of Finland Kaisa Juuso, HE Minister of Social Services of Sweden Camilla Waltersson Gronvall, HE Minister of Labor and Social Insurance of Cyprus Marinos Moushouttas, Assistant Secretary-General and Assistant Administrator of the UN Development Programme Marcos Athias Neto, ILO Special Representative and Director of the ILO Office at the United Nations Cynthia Samuel-Olonjuwon, and Assistant Secretary-General for Policy Coordination at UNDESA Bjorg Sandkjaer.
HE the Minister of Social Development and Family emphasized the strategic importance of the event, which was held shortly after the Second World Summit for Social Development. This summit marked a significant milestone, characterized by renewed international resolve and a commitment to transformative social progress.
Her Excellency highlighted the consensus adoption of the Doha Political Declaration, which outlines commitments and measures aimed at promoting innovative solutions and advancing integrated, people-centered policies for social development. She also introduced the Doha Solutions Platform for Social Development, a mechanism designed to showcase practical policies with measurable impact in areas such as poverty eradication, decent work, and social inclusion.
The platform was described as an instrument for monitoring commitments, fostering mutual learning, and sustaining post-summit momentum. Her Excellency affirmed that the current session of the Commission for Social Development offers an opportunity to implement proven solutions, with the Doha Promise serving as a benchmark for success in achieving inclusive and sustainable social development.
Throughout the discussions, representatives from governments and United Nations entities explored pathways to advance innovative solutions for inclusive social development, leveraging the momentum from the Second World Summit for Social Development and the Doha Political Declaration. Enhanced cooperation among stakeholders was also discussed to address pressing global social and development challenges.
