Qatar National Library Hosts Event Highlighting Social Media’s Role in Palestinian Solidarity.

Doha: Qatar National Library celebrated the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People by hosting an informative session focused on the role of social media in conveying the truth about Palestine and its impact on society. According to Qatar News Agency, the event, titled "Palestine's Story: An Evening of Solidarity with the Palestinian People," showcased items from the Library's heritage collection. These items included maps, manuscripts, and photos that pre-date the Nakba, highlighting various aspects of Palestinian history. Attendees were able to view photos depicting the community of Bethlehem, bread sellers and stonecutters in Jerusalem, and a lady in traditional Ramallah costume, among other significant images. Additionally, the collection included images of Jewish migration, a pivotal moment in the history of Palestine. A standout feature of the event was a discussion led by journalist Ahmed Hijazee. The session, titled "How to Be a Voice for Truth from Your Platform and the Role of Social Media in Conveying the Reality," delved into the influence of digital platforms in advocating for truth and emphasized the importance of social media in raising awareness about the Palestinian cause. The program also offered a comprehensive overview of the early days of the occupation, a presentation on Palestine's significance from Islamic and humanitarian viewpoints, and a moving rendition of the poem "I Am Palestinian" in sign language. Attendees could also participate in an embroidery workshop and take guided tours of the "Reesha" and Men in the Sun exhibits. Maram Al Mahmoud, Manager of the Children's and Young Adults Library at QNL, stated that the event supports the Library's mission to document and share the history of Palestine before the occupation. She explained, "Through such events, we aim to document Palestine's story and history and to preserve and shed light on our collective Arab and Islamic heritage in a bid to counter narratives that distort historical facts." In light of the rece nt assault on Gaza, the Library has organized multiple events to highlight Palestine's enduring Arab identity. "Palestine's Story" was among several initiatives aimed at educating youth and families about the Palestinian cause. The Library also hosted the "Raising for Palestine" webinar in collaboration with Teach for Qatar.
