Doha: The Qatari national football team suffered a 3-0 defeat against Italy's Udinese in a friendly match conducted as part of their training camp in Austria. This match was a preparation for the fourth stage of the AFC Asian Qualifiers Road to 2026.
According to Qatar News Agency, the match against Udinese was the second and final friendly of the training camp. The Qatari team is scheduled to return to Doha on Sunday, where players will rejoin their respective clubs to gear up for the Qatar Stars League's new season, set to begin on August 14.
In the first friendly of the camp, Qatar emerged victorious against Ukraine's FK Metalist Kharkiv with a 2-0 win. Goals were scored by Almoez Ali in the opening minute and Mohammed Muntari in the 43rd minute, highlighting their offensive prowess.
A strategic plan was put into place by Qatar's head coach Julen Lopetegui in collaboration with Al Duhail's coach Djamel Belmadi. The plan ensured playing time for all national team players except those from Al Duhail, who are participating in their club's training camp in the Netherlands. Al Duhail is preparing for their upcoming match in Doha on August 12 against Iran's Sepahan (Isfahan) for the AFC Champions League Elite 2025-2026.
Qatar is set to face Oman and the UAE in the AFC Asian Qualifiers' Group A matches, scheduled to be held at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium from October 8 to 14.
