Qatar Launches DEEP Institute for Tech Innovation in Collaboration with Germany

Doha: Qatari newspapers have highlighted several significant developments in their recent editorials, focusing primarily on the announcement of a new agreement between the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT) in Berlin and Qatari entities. This partnership involves the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) and the Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation Council (QRDI) to establish DEEP Qatar through the Institute for Deep Tech Innovation.

According to Qatar News Agency, this initiative aims to enhance ESMT's global presence and enrich its academic programs with a focus on innovation and technology transfer in both Berlin and Doha. The collaboration seeks to leverage Qatar's scientific and technical capabilities while fostering international cooperation. The newspapers also noted HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani's participation in the global investor meeting at the Web Summit Qatar 2026.

The editorials emphasized Qatar's ongoing commitment to regional security and stability, particularly in light of tensions between the United States and Iran. Al-Raya newspaper highlighted Qatar's strategy to become a global hub of innovation by localizing technical knowledge and developing a comprehensive system for research and entrepreneurship. The country aims to empower national talent in fields such as artificial intelligence, health, agriculture, and energy, reflecting its vision of a knowledge-based economy.

The newly signed agreement aims to create an integrated educational and research environment in Qatar, supporting researchers and entrepreneurs by applying scientific knowledge directly to practical projects. Al-Raya concluded that this approach is part of Qatar's long-term vision to develop a knowledge economy and strengthen local research, development, and innovation capacities.

Al-Arab daily described the agreement as a pioneering step in technology transfer and deep-tech innovation. The collaboration will strategically link the innovation ecosystems of Germany and Qatar. DEEP Qatar will focus on three main pillars: the Creative Destruction Lab in Doha, the DEEP Academy, and DEEP Pioneers. Al-Arab emphasized the significance of the Creative Destruction Lab, the first of its kind in the GCC and Asia, offering specialized tracks in AI, health, agriculture, and food technology.

Concluding its editorial, Al-Arab highlighted that the Creative Destruction Lab plans to support over 150 projects in three years, leveraging networks in Doha and Berlin. This initiative is expected to foster a positive developmental impact by enhancing skills, building an entrepreneurial mindset, and enabling participants to transform scientific discoveries into scalable startups.
