Qatar Joins International Task Force to Address Former Syrian Regime’s Chemical Weapons

New york: HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, participated in the launch event of the "Breath of Freedom Task Force" at the United Nations headquarters. The task force is focused on eliminating the remnants of the former Syrian regime's chemical weapons program.

According to Qatar News Agency, Her Excellency congratulated the Syrian Arab Republic and its permanent delegation to the United Nations for the launch of the international task force, which is led by Syria. This initiative is dedicated to addressing the chemical weapons program's remnants.

Her Excellency expressed Qatar's pride in joining the task force alongside countries such as Turkiye, Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. She emphasized Qatar's eagerness to work actively with these nations to achieve the task force's objectives.

Sheikha Alya highlighted that the initiative marks a new phase focusing on the safety, security, and well-being of the Syrian people, aiming for the complete removal of the chemical weapons threat from Syria and the region.

The Permanent Representative reiterated Qatar's commitment to promoting the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and its continued support for Syria in eliminating the chemical weapons legacy of the former regime. The initiative aims to foster a more secure future for the Syrian people.
