Doha: Qatari newspapers have emphasized the inauguration of the Ras Laffan and Mesaieed solar power plants, under the patronage of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
According to Qatar News Agency, these new facilities will double the production capacity of solar energy in Qatar to 1,675MW, marking a significant step toward achieving the fourth pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030.
In its editorial, Al-Raya newspaper highlighted Qatar's leading position in efforts to reduce carbon emissions and address global warming. The newspaper underscored the significance of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's role in inaugurating the solar power plants at Ras Laffan Industrial City. Al-Raya concluded by emphasizing Qatar's commitment to electric energy transition, noting its success during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in providing a sustainable transport experience. The combined output of the Ras Laffan and Mesaieed plants, along with the Al Kharsaah Solar Power Plant, brings Qatar closer to its goal of 4,000MW of solar energy by 2030.
Al-Sharq newspaper also highlighted the strategic importance of the Ras Laffan and Mesaieed projects in diversifying energy sources and supporting development initiatives. The newspaper noted that the new power plants will help achieve Qatar's Energy Sustainability Strategy by generating more than 4,000MW of renewable energy by 2030. Al-Sharq concluded by stating that these initiatives are crucial for reducing carbon emissions and diversifying electricity generation. The Ras Laffan and Mesaieed plants, alongside the Al Kharsaah Solar Power Plant, will meet about 15% of the country's peak electricity demand, a figure expected to rise to 30% with the Dukhan solar power plant's commissioning by 2029.
