Doha: The State of Qatar and the rest of the world celebrate the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, observed annually on April 28, as part of efforts to protect workers, reinforce occupational safety and health concepts, and encourage both private and governmental sectors to prioritize employee safety.
According to Qatar News Agency, the State and its institutions emphasize the need for comprehensive care for workers exposed to workplace hazards, aligning with human rights standards in international agreements. In this context, the Ministry of Labor, in cooperation with the International Labour Organization, hosted a virtual event to promote safe and sustainable work environments that support worker well-being.
This year's event focused on mental health as a crucial factor for productivity and sustainability, amidst rapid labor market changes that necessitate effective practices for worker well-being. On April 16, the Ministry's Occupational Safety and Health Department organized awareness seminars with partners to enhance safety culture and awareness of workplace hazards, particularly biological ones.
The Ministry reiterated that preventive awareness is essential for protecting lives, reducing losses, and increasing work efficiency. Investing in awareness and training is seen as a direct investment in both human safety and organizational success.
The World Day for Safety and Health at Work aims to prevent occupational accidents and diseases globally, drawing international attention to create a culture of health and safety to reduce workplace-related deaths and injuries. Psychological and social work conditions, shaped by work design and management practices, significantly impact employee safety and performance. Addressing these psychosocial factors is crucial for ensuring safe and healthy work environments.
