Qatar Football Association Participates in FIFA Council Meeting

Accra:The Qatar Football Association (QFA), represented by President HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al-Thani, took part in the 37th meeting of the FIFA Council. The meeting, chaired by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, was held via video conference. Participants discussed a range of agenda items and made several decisions and recommendations.

According to Qatar News Agency, FIFA presented a proposed initiative called the FIFA Surplus Solidarity Program during the meeting. This initiative aims to use a portion of FIFA's reserves to more than double the planned funding for the 2027-2030 period to USD 6.35 billion.

The proposal outlines that each FIFA Member Association would receive allocations of USD 25 million. Additionally, distributions to confederations, zonal/regional associations, and other stakeholders are set to see significant increases in their Forward 4.0 entitlements. These distributions will focus on the development of women's and youth football, long-term football projects, and infrastructure.

The plan will include details on eligibility, application, approval, disbursement, control, and audit requirements. It is scheduled to be finalized by the relevant FIFA committees and the FIFA Council at its next meeting in December 2026. The finalized plan will be included in the Annual Report 2026 and subject to approval at the 77th FIFA Congress in March 2027, following established governance practices.
