Qatar Engages in UN Event Focused on Social Rights and Democratic Stability

Geneva: The State of Qatar participated in a significant side event on advancing social rights and democratic stability, held in conjunction with the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva. Representing Qatar was HE Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, Dr. Hind bint Abdulrahman Al Muftah.

According to Qatar News Agency, the event was organized by the Council of Europe in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Permanent Missions of Qatar, Portugal, and Moldova to the United Nations in Geneva. It received support from the European Union along with several partner nations. Dr. Al Muftah emphasized Qatar's strategic diplomacy in hosting major events and multilateral summits, underscoring its commitment to fostering international cooperation and dialogue.

Dr. Al Muftah highlighted Qatar's role in addressing global challenges, including peace negotiations, digital technology issues, climate change effects, and development goals. She noted that the meetings aim to find practical solutions for a better world. Qatar is committed to turning the Doha Political Declaration into actionable measures focused on poverty eradication, decent work, and sustainable societies. This includes enhancing international cooperation, leveraging digital innovation, and implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

She underscored that these initiatives, supported by concrete policies, prioritize social justice and improved living standards, essential for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Dr. Al Muftah stressed the importance of social justice for lasting peace and sustainable development.
