Jeddah: Qatar participated in the technical preparatory meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on Afghanistan, held at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah. Representing Qatar was Dr. Khalid Abdulaziz Al Khalifi, First Secretary at the Office of the Special Envoy to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Al Khalifi underscored the significance of the meeting during a critical period, advocating for a balanced collective approach to Afghanistan. This includes an urgent humanitarian response, responsible political engagement, and respect for Afghanistan's unique circumstances. These efforts align with OIC principles and support the Afghan people's aspirations for security, stability, and development.
He noted that Qatar views this meeting as an important opportunity to exchange technical assessments, coordinate efforts, and formulate practical recommendations, which will enhance the Ministerial Contact Group's effectiveness and cohesion. Dr. Al Khalifi also mentioned Qatar's hosting of the UN-led Doha Process, emphasizing that constructive dialogue is the most effective path to peace and has been crucial in advancing international efforts regarding Afghanistan.
The third round of the Doha Process established two specialized working groups focused on counter-narcotics and the role of the private sector. These groups aim to foster practical dialogue between the Afghan caretaker government and the international community, addressing humanitarian and development needs while contributing to stability.
Dr. Al Khalifi expressed Qatar's hope that the meeting would lead to practical outcomes, advancing a responsible collective approach toward Afghanistan, reflecting the spirit of Islamic solidarity.
