Doha: The State of Qatar participated in a ministerial meeting focused on developments related to the Strait of Hormuz, which was conducted via videoconference. The meeting was convened by the United Kingdom's Foreign Office.
According to Qatar News Agency, Qatar was represented by HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi. He highlighted that the security of the Strait of Hormuz is a global concern due to its significant impact on energy security and international supply chains. Dr. Al Khulaifi emphasized the necessity of achieving consensus on a comprehensive security framework to ensure navigation freedom and maintain regional stability.
Dr. Al Khulaifi reiterated Qatar's commitment to maritime security and its role in stabilizing international markets. He condemned Iranian threats to close the Strait and any unjustified attacks on shipping, terming these actions violations of international law and threats to global peace, maritime security, and energy security.
He further clarified that the Strait of Hormuz is an essential international waterway and should not be manipulated as a tool for coercion or political pressure. He advocated for a collective approach involving all regional countries to address future concerns regarding the Strait. Dr. Al Khulaifi also endorsed the Gulf Cooperation Council's efforts in developing joint solutions and stressed the importance of GCC involvement in any regional agreements.
