Washington: The State of Qatar participated in the signing ceremony of the Peace and Economic Agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Republic of Rwanda, hosted by the United States government in Washington. Representing Qatar at the event was HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi.
According to Qatar News Agency, the agreement marks a significant step toward resolving conflict in eastern DRC, promoting regional stability, and enhancing cooperation in East and Central Africa. It builds on previous agreements facilitated by Qatar and the US, including the Washington Agreement signed in June 2025, the Doha Declaration of Principles from July 2025, and the Doha Framework Peace Agreement signed in November 2025. These agreements established protocols for humanitarian aid, state authority restoration, and comprehensive peaceful settlements.
HE Dr. Al Khulaifi emphasized Qatar's ongoing support for mediation efforts to foster peace, stability, and development in the region. He highlighted the importance of constructive engagement and adherence to agreed commitments, expressing appreciation for the cooperation of all parties during negotiations. He stressed the necessity of effective implementation to protect civilians and create favorable conditions for economic growth.
Dr. Al Khulaifi reiterated Qatar's belief that dialogue is essential for sustainable peace and committed to collaborating with regional and international partners in future phases of the process. He also expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump and US Department of State representatives for their efforts in advancing negotiations and supporting the peace process.
