Qatar Engages in Global Dialogue on Competition and Consumer Protection in Tbilisi

Tbilisi: The State of Qatar took part in the International Conference on Competition and Consumer Protection held in Tbilisi, Georgia, beginning on Thursday and extending until the upcoming Saturday. The event gathers several prominent international organizations, including the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the International Competition Network (ICN), and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), along with heads of competition and consumer protection authorities and experts worldwide.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari delegation was led by Assistant Undersecretary for Consumer Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Hassan bin Sultan Al Ghanim. During the conference, Al Ghanim highlighted the significance of sharing international expertise and creating innovative regulatory tools to ensure a competitive and efficient economy that protects consumers and enhances Qatar's investment climate.

The Qatari representatives underscored the nation's initiatives to develop competition policies, encourage market fairness, and safeguard consumer rights in alignment with global practices. They reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to bolstering international cooperation and learning from global experiences in competition and consumer protection, aiming to foster sustainable economic development.

The conference addresses various critical topics, including the enforcement of competition law before and after anti-competitive practices, monitoring mergers and acquisitions, competition policies in regulated sectors, and enhancing consumer protection against misleading commercial practices. It also covers the protection of vulnerable consumer groups, such as children, anti-dumping policies, and strategies to strengthen the resilience of national industries.
