Qatar Engages in GCC Ministerial Meeting on Urban Development in Kuwait

Kuwait City: The State of Qatar participated in the 28th ministerial meeting of Their Excellencies GCC Ministers of Municipal Affairs, hosted by the State of Kuwait. HE Minister of Municipality Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah represented Qatar at the meeting. The gathering aimed to bolster joint Gulf efforts in municipal affairs, focusing on urban development and legislative integration among the GCC states.

According to Qatar News Agency, the ministers addressed several critical topics, including enhancing the urban environment, implementing a unified Gulf building code, and developing municipal oversight mechanisms. The classification of contractors in the Gulf states was also a key discussion point. These discussions are part of broader efforts to foster cooperation and integration in municipal legislation and practices across the region.

The meeting further explored the joint Gulf municipal action plan for 2024-2030. This plan highlights initiatives in strategic urban planning, sustainable urban development, and the enhancement of municipal services. The ministers also discussed the 6th GCC Municipal Work Award, joint training programs, and workshops aimed at showcasing Gulf municipal efforts in regional and international forums.

Additionally, the importance of signing cooperation agreements with specialized international and regional organizations was underscored. Such agreements are seen as pivotal for supporting and developing municipal work by leveraging the best international practices and experiences. Qatar's active participation in this meeting underscores its commitment to advancing Gulf integration in municipal sectors and contributing to the creation of an integrated urban environment that aligns with sustainable development goals and enhances quality of life in Gulf cities.
