Cairo: The State of Qatar participated in the 28th Session of the Arab Charter for Human Rights Committee held at the Arab League General Secretariat headquarters. This session focused on reviewing the second periodic report of Kuwait, forming part of the committee's 66th meeting.
According to Qatar News Agency, the State of Qatar was represented by Mohammed Salem Al Khawar, the Second Secretary at Qatar's Permanent Delegation to the Arab League. The session aimed to evaluate Kuwait's progress in fulfilling its legal obligations under the Arab Charter for Human Rights. Key topics included the right to life and physical integrity, equality and non-discrimination, civil and political rights, and the prohibition of slavery and human trafficking. Discussions also encompassed access to justice, the right to an effective remedy, freedom of opinion and expression, health and education rights, and family protection, with an emphasis on women and children.
The Arab League stated that Kuwait submitted its second periodic report to the Secretary-General in March 2025. The report outlined the actions Kuwait undertook to enhance rights and freedoms since joining the charter, as well as responses to observations and recommendations from the committee's first periodic report review.
The session saw attendance from various permanent delegations to the Arab League, the Arab Parliament, the Arab Permanent Committee on Human Rights, the Gulf Cooperation Council, the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, national human rights institutions, and civil society organizations.
