Seville: HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad has underscored the significance of innovative financing and effective partnerships in realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Her Excellency highlighted HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's directives to view development as an investment in security, stability, and human dignity.
According to Qatar News Agency, this statement was delivered by HE the Minister of State for International Cooperation during a high-level event organized by Qatar Fund for Development. The event, titled "Innovative Financing for Sustainable Development: Addressing Gaps and Scaling Solutions," took place on the sidelines of the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development in Seville, Spain.
Her Excellency recalled that Qatar hosted the Second International Conference on Financing for Development in 2008 and has since actively participated in various international and regional conferences on development financing. This commitment reflects Qatar's dedication to enhancing international cooperation and contributing to the global efforts to implement the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals.
Qatar continues to pursue its sustainable development agenda through the "Qatar National Vision 2030," which has been focused on human, social, economic, and environmental development since 2008. In early 2024, Qatar launched the third phase of its National Development Strategy, which aims to create a healthy society, build a diversified and sustainable knowledge-based economy, enhance environmental sustainability, and strengthen the role of the family as the foundation of society.
Her Excellency emphasized the need for reinforced multilateral action and international cooperation in line with the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, especially in the face of current global challenges. She stressed the importance of reforming international financial structures, leveraging science, technology, and innovation, and prioritizing solutions that can rapidly and effectively help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in developing and least developed countries.
An effective role is expected from the United Nations and its specialized agencies in supporting member states' efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and protect human rights. Her Excellency reiterated Qatar's support for the UN Secretary-General's reform initiative, the UN80 Initiative.
HE Minister of State for International Cooperation expressed Qatar's pride in its productive international and regional partnerships, including its longstanding cooperation with the United Nations, aimed at advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in developing and least developed countries.
