Qatar Emphasizes Role of Digital Transformation in Development

New York:Qatar has emphasized the critical role of digital transformation and artificial intelligence in driving economic and social development, enhancing services, boosting productivity, and supporting decision-making toward sustainable progress.

According to Qatar News Agency, Sheikh Khalid Abdulaziz Al-Thani, a member of Qatar's delegation, delivered this message during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly's Second Committee, focusing on Information and Communications Technologies for Sustainable Development.

Qatar places significant importance on the advancement of information and communications technology and artificial intelligence in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Digital Agenda 2030. These initiatives aim to create a secure and sustainable digital infrastructure, promote economic diversification, and ensure digital inclusion.

The country is actively implementing its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, which emphasizes promoting scientific research, developing national capabilities, and supporting AI applications across various sectors. Programs like GOV AI and the TASMU Smart Qatar program are pivotal in accelerating digital transformation and enhancing public service quality.

Qatar has also made substantial investments in its digital infrastructure, including fiber-optic networks, data centers, and cloud computing capabilities, to support artificial intelligence. The announcement of Qai, the national AI company, in December 2025 underscores Qatar's commitment to investing in advanced AI systems and supporting digital solutions in both public and private sectors.

Moreover, Qatar acknowledges the global digital transformation's role in bridging development gaps and highlights the necessity of international cooperation in technology transfer, capacity building, and digital infrastructure development. These efforts are crucial for ensuring technology plays a part in achieving Sustainable Development Goals.

Sheikh Khalid Al-Thani emphasized Qatar's active participation in UN processes on AI governance, including the inaugural UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance held in Geneva in July 2026. He reiterated Qatar's dedication to collaborating with stakeholders to leverage technology and innovation for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
