Geneva: The State of Qatar has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women across all sectors through its comprehensive policies and strategies designed to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women and girls. This integrated approach equally addresses social and economic dimensions of empowerment.
According to Qatar News Agency, the statement was delivered by Khalid Saeed Al Muqbil, First Secretary at the Office of the Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during an interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the right to development. This dialogue took place under item 3 during the 60th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Al Muqbil emphasized the critical role of women’s full and effective participation in all aspects of life as a cornerstone for development. He noted that the United Nations Declaration on the Right to Development prohibits gender-based discrimination, while Sustainable Development Goal 5 highlights gender equality and women’s empowerment as essential global objectives for sustainable development.
Highlighting the national context, he pointed out that Qatari women play a central role in the country’s comprehensive development. Qatari women benefit from governmental support aimed at empowering them in diverse economic, social, and political sectors, in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030. This vision is geared towards building a sustainable society that fosters economic growth and social welfare.
Furthermore, Al Muqbil mentioned Qatar’s upcoming hosting of the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha in November 2025. He expressed optimism that this significant global event will serve as a platform to enhance women’s full and equal participation in developmental efforts.
In conclusion, the First Secretary extended gratitude to the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to development, Surya Deva, for his significant efforts in fulfilling his mandate.
