Vienna: The State of Qatar renewed its condemnation of the Israeli attack that targeted its territories on September 9, labeling it a violation of its sovereignty and security as well as a breach of the UN Charter and international law.
According to Qatar News Agency, HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie addressed the 69th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria. Qatar affirmed that the attack was met with widespread international rejection and solidarity with Doha, emphasizing that it will take necessary measures to defend its sovereignty and work with partners to hold Israel accountable.
His Excellency announced Qatar's financial contribution of USD 600,000 to support the IAEA's resources for 2026-2027, expressing appreciation for the agency's efforts in nuclear security and the development of peaceful nuclear technologies. He also revealed Qatar's submission of three new national projects for the cooperation cycle 2026-2027 and participation in regional projects, including funding of EUR 2 million to establish the largest secondary calibration laboratory in the region.
HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change reiterated Qatar's firm stance on supporting the nuclear non-proliferation regime and rejecting the use of force and nuclear threat policies. He called for efforts to establish a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East, highlighting Israel's refusal to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty or subject its facilities to safeguards.
His Excellency noted the seriousness of Israeli statements about potential nuclear weapon use against Palestinians in Gaza, viewing it as a violation of international law and a threat to regional and international security. He also commended Qatar's progress in addressing nuclear and radiological emergencies, with support from the IAEA, and highlighted the participation of a Qatari scientific team in the International Nuclear Science Olympiad in Malaysia, where the team won three medals.
