Paris: The State of Qatar has urged for unified international actions to safeguard the right to education worldwide, while reiterating its denunciation of the Israeli occupation's targeting of educational and cultural institutions in Palestine.
According to Qatar News Agency, during the 221st session of UNESCO's Executive Board in Paris, HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to UNESCO Dr. Nasser bin Hamad Al Hanzab emphasized that securing educational rights is fundamental to building peace and stability. He highlighted Qatar's collaborations with United Nations organizations and various partners, as well as the initiatives and programs launched to prioritize education globally. The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has supported projects like the "Sport for Peace and Development" initiative and has partnered with the United Nations and the World Bank to advance these efforts.
HE Al Hanzab condemned the Israeli military actions in the Gaza Strip, particularly the targeting of educational and cultural institutions and journalists in Gaza and the West Bank. He specifically mentioned the attacks on Dar Al Arqam School and a depot managed by the Saudi Center for Culture and Heritage in Gaza. He also condemned similar actions in other conflict zones worldwide.
Qatar advocates for dialogue and communication, emphasizing its importance in international relations and humanitarian efforts. This approach is part of Qatar's strategy to foster cultural cooperation and strengthen global ties.
HE Al Hanzab reiterated Qatar's commitment to humanitarian and development goals aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aiming for stable and just societies with accessible education. Domestically, Qatar has initiated Education 2024-2030 under the theme "Igniting the Flame of Learning" to develop a comprehensive educational system that promotes innovation and prepares future generations.
He also mentioned Qatar's support for stability in conflict zones like Afghanistan, Sudan, and Yemen, and its efforts to empower women during conflicts.
