Qatar and Jordan Forge Stronger Ties Amid Regional Tensions

Amman: In an effort to bolster Arab political consultation and coordination, HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani of Qatar is visiting the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. During this significant visit, he is scheduled to meet with HM King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein to discuss the enhancement of bilateral relations and exchange views on pressing regional and international issues.

According to Qatar News Agency, this visit underscores the strong relationship between Qatar and Jordan, highlighting their commitment to building strategic partnerships and advancing cooperation. The visit is particularly noteworthy given the recent Israeli aggression against Qatar, marking His Highness’ first international trip since the attack. This visit follows the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit held in Doha.

In the aftermath of the Israeli attack, HH the Amir received a phone call from HM King Abdullah II, expressing Jordan’s solidarity and condemning the attack as a violation of international laws. The King emphasized Jordan’s rejection of any aggression threatening Qatar’s security. This sentiment was further reinforced by a solidarity visit from HRH Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II to Qatar, where he reiterated Jordan’s support and condemnation of the aggression.

The diplomatic relations between Qatar and Jordan have been robust since their establishment in 1972. The frequent mutual visits by the leaders of the two nations have strengthened these ties, serving as a foundation for future cooperation. Both countries share a unified stance on supporting Palestinian rights and coordinate efforts in international forums to aid the people of Gaza.

Humanitarian and development cooperation is a key component of the Qatar-Jordan partnership, focusing on medical and relief aid to the Gaza Strip and Syria. The relationship between the two nations is marked by mutual respect and a shared vision for regional security and stability.

Over the years, numerous bilateral agreements have been signed, enhancing cooperation across various sectors such as trade, economy, health, and tourism. The economic ties are bolstered by a strategic partnership in investment and infrastructure, with significant roles played by the Qatari-Jordanian Business Council in facilitating trade and economic collaboration.

The trade balance between Jordan and Qatar has shown consistent growth, with a 5.6 percent increase noted in 2024 compared to the previous year. The volume of trade exchange reached nearly USD 250 million last year. The Qatar Chamber’s participation in the Gulf-Jordanian Investment Conference in December 2024 exemplifies ongoing efforts to strengthen economic relations, focusing on public-private partnerships and exploring investment opportunities in various sectors.
