Cairo: HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani emphasized the steadfast commitment of both Qatar and Egypt to finding a resolution to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, even amidst significant challenges. His remarks came during a joint press conference with HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt Badr Abdel Aatty, held during the Sixth Session of the Qatari-Egyptian Joint Higher Committee in Cairo.
According to Qatar News Agency, His Excellency highlighted the importance of the bilateral partnership between the two nations, crediting it with the success of previous ceasefire agreements in the region. He urged the international community to press Israel for humanitarian access to Gaza and to alleviate the famine impacting the Palestinian people, expressing hope for an imminent ceasefire agreement.
HE Sheikh Mohammed's visit to Cairo aligns with the Committee's ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral relations, noting past developments such as the recent visit of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Qatar. Discussion topics included regional tensions, particularly in Lebanon, Syria, and Sudan, where irresponsible actions by Israel have been noted without deterrent responses.
The discussions also explored the robust economic ties between Qatar and Egypt, underscored by direct investments from Qatar amounting to approximately USD 7.5 billion. Both leaders signed multiple agreements, aiming to diversify cooperation beyond the economic sphere into cultural and social sectors.
HE Dr. Badr Abdel Aatty highlighted the session's outcomes, including agreements on social insurance and agriculture, and the launch of a political consultation mechanism between the two countries. The session reflected a commitment to build on previous meetings and foster reciprocal high-level visits.
Further discussions addressed the Palestinian cause, with both countries advocating for a ceasefire in Gaza, humanitarian aid access, and a political settlement for an independent Palestinian state. The joint efforts also extend to coordinating with international partners to reach a sixty-day ceasefire agreement and prepare for a recovery conference for Gaza.
The Committee also discussed regional issues such as the situations in Sudan, Libya, Syria, Lebanon, and the Red Sea region, emphasizing peaceful resolutions over military interventions.
