Doha: The State of Qatar and the Republic of Cyprus have formalized their commitment to enhancing cooperation in the maritime transportation sector through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This significant development was marked by the signing of the MoU by HE Minister of Transport Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al-Thani and HE Shipping Deputy Minister to the President of the Republic of Cyprus Marina Hadjimanolis. The event took place on the sidelines of the Maritime Cyprus 2025 Conference.
According to Qatar News Agency, the MoU aims to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in several key areas related to maritime transportation. These include meeting international maritime carriage requirements, optimizing the use of maritime fleets, ensuring safety and security at sea, enhancing marine environment protection, preventing ship-source pollution, and collaborating on maritime transport science and technologies. The agreement also emphasizes the importance of sharing experiences and knowledge in these fields.
The signing of the MoU underscores the Ministry of Transport’s dedication to advancing international maritime cooperation and aligns with the goals outlined in the Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV 2030). Both parties are committed to fostering a safe and sustainable marine environment.
Following the MoU signing, the officials from Qatar and Cyprus engaged in discussions on bilateral relations, focusing on transportation and ways to further enhance cooperation, particularly in maritime navigation and port development.
