The State of Qatar affirmed Monday that it attaches great attention to the youth by paying attention to education, training and providing job opportunities, including their assumption of leadership and decision-making positions, as one of its main priorities, highlighting its establishment of general and specialized youth centers concerned with developing youth potentials and enhancing their skills.
This came in a speech by HE Permanent Representative of State of Qatar to the United Nations in Geneva Dr. Hind Abdul Rahman Al Muftah, during her participation in the high-level panel discussion entitled: “Reflection on the five years of the UN Youth Strategy (Youth 2030) … drawing an outline of the coming steps”, within the framework of the 52nd regular session of the Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, whose main theme was proposed by the permanent delegation of the State of Qatar.
Her Excellency the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva referred to the Qatar National Youth Document, which was prepared within the framework of the State of Qatar’s commitment to youth issues. The document is a national strategy and vision that identifies youth needs and priorities, ways to involve them in decision-making processes, and ensures their inclusion in making and achieving development.
With the aim of qualifying young people to contribute to finding innovative solutions to current global issues, the Reach Out to Asia Foundation (ROTA), affiliated to Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, holds the Empower Youth Conference (EMPOWER) in Qatar, the first youth-led conference to be held annually since 2009, with the aim of supporting the development of youth capabilities in the State of Qatar, and enhancing communication between them and empowering them to make a positive impact in their communities, Her Excellency said.
Her Excellency indicated that the Silatech Foundation, which was founded by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, also works to empower youth in the world economically and socially by connecting them to the jobs and resources necessary to establish and develop their projects, and to provide comprehensive and innovative solutions in the field of youth employment, by working with national, regional and international partners including the UN funds, agencies and programs.
Silatech seeks, through its programs in 17 countries, to protect youth and their communities from the scourges of poverty, unemployment and extremism, and also contributes to achieving a number of sustainable development goals, Her Excellency added.
Her Excellency highlighted the recently signed 10 million euro agreement between Silatech and the European Union that aims to expanding a project to support youth entrepreneurship and financial inclusion, with the aim of enhancing the economic empowerment of more than 40,000 young men and women in various Yemeni governorates to provide a source of income for them and their families.
