Qatar Affirms Commitment to Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution

Geneva: The State of Qatar has reaffirmed that peacebuilding and its preservation are top priorities in its foreign policy, emphasizing its commitment to preventing conflicts and resolving them through peaceful means. This includes hosting negotiations and facilitating constructive dialogue and mediation to achieve lasting peace.

According to Qatar News Agency, this affirmation was made by Hamad Abdullah Al Obaidli, Third Secretary in the Human Resources Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a panel discussion on human rights and the culture of peace. The discussion was part of Item 3 at the sixty-first session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Al Obaidli highlighted the necessity of adhering to international law, which governs peaceful relations between states, and the importance of refraining from the use or threat of force that contradicts the principles of the United Nations. He further elaborated on Qatar's efforts in resolving conflicts by implementing development programs aimed at enhancing peace sustainability. These efforts include specific projects to provide education to millions of children affected by conflicts.

He also pointed out Qatar's contribution to international efforts against violent extremism, notably through support for the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF). This fund promotes a culture of peace by focusing on projects addressing poverty reduction, education, and youth employment, ultimately aiming to rebuild resilience within communities.
