Doha: The State of Qatar has urgently reached out to the United Nations with two identical letters addressing the recent Iranian attacks on its territories. These letters were sent to HE Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres and HE Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations and President of the Security Council for April, Jamal Fares Alrowaiei. The communication addressed the ongoing security threats arising from these attacks and the implications for regional stability.
According to Qatar News Agency, the letters were dispatched by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani. The 12th letter detailed the Ministry of Defense's declaration about the drone attacks from Iran on April 2 and April 3, 2026. The Qatari Armed Forces intercepted these threats successfully. Furthermore, the letter mentioned the incidents on April 5 and April 6, where drones and cruise missiles from Iran were also intercepted.
The 13th letter highlighted a missile attack intercepted by Qatar's Armed Forces, with debris causing injuries to four individuals, including a child, due to falling debris in a residential area. The Ministry of Interior confirmed immediate medical response to the injuries and recorded limited material damage.
The letters underscored that these hostile actions persist despite the Security Council's Resolution 2817 (2026), which condemned the attacks and demanded cessation. Qatar reiterated that these actions by Iran violate international laws, including the Geneva Conventions and principles of humanitarian law, citing the attacks target purely civilian areas.
Qatar stressed that these unlawful acts bear international responsibility, potentially necessitating compensation for damages. Qatar assured that it will keep the UN and the Security Council updated on any further developments. Furthermore, the letters affirmed Qatar's right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, emphasizing its commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and the safety of its citizens.
In conclusion, Qatar has requested that these letters be circulated as official Security Council documents, to draw urgent international attention to the violations and seek necessary interventions.
