Doha: The 2025-2026 winter camping season in Qatar has been reported as a success, marked by a high turnout of citizens and residents who benefited from well-organized camps and comprehensive services.
According to Qatar News Agency, Hamad Salem Al Nuaimi, Chair of the Winter Camping Committee at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, highlighted several key achievements during this season. These included stronger adherence to environmental regulations, improved organizational infrastructure for campsites, and increased awareness among campers about protecting the natural environment.
Al Nuaimi also addressed the main challenges faced during the season, such as the increasing number of campers which put pressure on sites and services, alongside non-compliant practices observed at the start of the season. These issues were managed through intensified inspection campaigns and the deployment of modern monitoring technologies to ensure compliance.
The Winter Camping Committee implemented various measures to safeguard both the environment and camper safety, such as precise campsite allocations, protection of environmentally sensitive areas, regular waste collection, and strict regulations on vehicle use in desert and natural areas. Al Nuaimi noted a significant improvement in compliance compared to previous seasons, attributing this to successful awareness campaigns.
Despite the progress, Al Nuaimi emphasized that certain areas still require further organization and monitoring, with potential solutions under study for future seasons. Key lessons from this season include the importance of early planning, greater reliance on digital permit systems, and strengthened partnerships with relevant authorities. The ministry is committed to enhancing oversight mechanisms and awareness programs to ensure the sustainability of Qatar's natural environment.
Al Nuaimi concluded by encouraging all campers to adhere to regulations and contribute to the protection of Qatar's terrestrial environment, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility as a shared commitment.
