Prisoners Authority: Negev Prison is the ‘cemetery of the living’

General

Ramallah – Ma’an – Since the beginning of the aggression on October 7, the occupation authorities and their prison administration have been adopting a policy of revenge and stifling restrictions against our prisoners, deliberately suppressing and torturing prisoners and depriving them of the most basic necessities of daily life. As a result, a number of prisoners have lost their lives, while many of them have been seriously injured. Infectious diseases have also appeared among them, the most important of which is scabies. In addition, most of them have lost a lot of weight and have a constant feeling of weakness due to starvation and deliberate humiliation and degradation, in addition to medical neglect, as sick prisoners have not been exempted from torture and deprivation of treatment and medication.

In this context, the Authority’s lawyers visited the Negev prison at the end of last week, to inspect the conditions of the prisoners, explore their circumstances, and learn about their suffering and the organi
zed racism and fascism to which they are exposed. They visited:

1. Prisoner Qusay Hasees (20 years old), arrested on 11/4/2023, suffers from Scabies and his health condition is very difficult, as the disease is widespread throughout his body. The lawyer says that Qusay “was scratching his body and in pain throughout the visit”, and he asked the administration dozens of times for treatment to no avail. As a result of these symptoms, he cannot sleep for days on end, noting that 10 prisoners in the same room with him suffer from the same disease, some of whom are constantly bleeding and oozing blood and pus.

2. Prisoner Ayman Mahmoud Atshan (29 years old) from Aroura, Ramallah District, was arrested on 11/01/2023. He complains of pain due to fractures in his ribs as a result of severe beatings and cannot move or get out of bed except with the help of others. He explained that there are areas in the prison called the 3-Step Area and the area between the two doors, and these areas do not have cameras and it is k
nown that any prisoner who enters these two areas is subjected to severe beatings.

And with the prisoner in the same room are the following prisoners:

-Ahmed Harish/Beitunia.

-Taisir Al-Arouri / Aroura.

-Zahran Zahran / Bedouins.

-Sulaiman Khatib / Aroura.

-Ahmed Khatib / Aaroura.

3. Prisoner Mujahid Abu Al-Ezz, 30 years old, from Jenin camp, married and father of a child, was arrested on 12/12/2023. He is an administrative detainee, suffering from skypus disease. The following prisoners are in the same room with the prisoner, and they are fine:

Mohammed Taleb/Jenin Fares Qadoumi/Qalqilya

Fares Brahma / Jericho Fares Jaradat / Silat Al-Dhahr

Hamam Musalma / Hebron Muhammad Abu Abed / Jenin

4. Prisoner Junaid Abdel Fattah from Nablus (31 years old), arrested on 01/07/2023, was subjected to violent beatings several times.

5. Prisoner Sharif Qandil (42 years old) from Askar camp in Nablus, was arrested on 12/11/2002 and sentenced to 23 years in prison. He has been suffering from spinal disc disease s
ince 2010, and his painkillers have been cut off since the beginning of the October 2023 war. He suffers from severe back pain and is not given any treatment or painkillers. He is in Section 21.

6. Prisoner Qusay Abu Al-Wafa, 22 years old, from the town of Al-Zawiya, Jenin District, was arrested on 3/5/2023.

The prisoner was unable to complete the visit due to his being affected by the news of his mother’s death, and he requested that the visit be ended, especially since his mother died suddenly at the age of 43 and only suffered from diabetes.

7. Prisoner Jalal Hilal Shakhshir (31 years old) from the city of Nablus, married with two sons and three daughters, sustained head injuries as a result of an assault by the so-called ‘Keter’ forces, which led to a deterioration in his health and psychological condition, and affected his concentration. He needs medical follow-up, and the prison administration is ignoring his condition.

The Commission held the Israeli occupation authorities and its prison administra
tion fully responsible for the lives of male and female prisoners in Israeli prisons, after they had transformed detention centers into arenas for brutal revenge since the beginning of the genocide, calling on the international community, human rights institutions and the Red Cross to stand by the prisoners and carry out their role and duty to stop these systematic crimes and the policy of direct killing and slow death against thousands of our people inside the occupation prisons.
