Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer Discuss Regional Developments and Bilateral Relations

Doha: HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani held talks on Friday with HE Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Keir Starmer, during his visit to Doha. The discussions primarily centered around the latest regional developments, particularly in light of the newly announced ceasefire involving the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to Qatar News Agency, the leaders also explored ways to strengthen bilateral relations, focusing on cooperation in defense and economic sectors. HE Sheikh Mohammed expressed Qatar's support for the ceasefire announcement and highlighted the need to utilize it as a foundation to prevent further regional escalation. He underscored the significance of maintaining secure maritime routes and ensuring freedom of navigation and international trade, as per international law, which is vital for regional stability and the continuity of global supply chains.

HE Sheikh Mohammed conveyed appreciation for the United Kingdom's support and cooperation in defense matters with Qatar. In response, HE Starmer affirmed the UK's solidarity with Qatar and emphasized the importance of transitioning the ceasefire into a lasting agreement to ensure security and stability in the region.
