Prime Minister Condemns Iran’s Justifications for Attacks on Qatar and Gulf Nations

Doha: HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani has issued a strong condemnation of Iranian attacks on Qatar and neighboring Gulf countries, firmly rejecting the justifications provided by Tehran.

According to Qatar News Agency, in a recent interview with Sky News, Sheikh Mohammed praised the proficiency of Qatari armed forces and security services in safeguarding the nation, its citizens, residents, and visitors. He expressed disappointment over the attacks, noting that Qatar had always aimed for a peaceful and cooperative relationship with Iran. The Prime Minister described the Iranian actions as a betrayal, highlighting that the strikes were pre-planned and occurred in conjunction with the outbreak of war in the region.

Sheikh Mohammed detailed the impact of the attacks, mentioning that both military and civilian infrastructures, including energy installations and drinking water systems, were targeted. He assured that Qatar possesses the capability and trained personnel to defend its territory, mitigate civilian harm, and maintain essential services. The Prime Minister reiterated Qatar's stance against any assault on civil or energy infrastructure, emphasizing that such a position is consistently applied globally.

The Prime Minister recounted a significant Iranian attack on a gas facility during the second day of the conflict, which resulted in a high-risk situation that compelled Qatar to declare force majeure and temporarily cease operations. Despite Iranian President's assurances to halt attacks, Sheikh Mohammed noted a continued assault on the region, indicating a dissonance between statements and actions.

He stressed the importance of regional countries avoiding involvement in the war, advocating for a swift cessation of hostilities and a preference for diplomatic solutions. The Prime Minister affirmed Qatar's right to self-defense, emphasizing that the nation will take necessary measures to protect itself from further aggression.

Discussing the broader regional implications, Sheikh Mohammed warned of the serious threats to both regional and global security, pointing out the disruptions to energy markets and international logistics caused by the Gulf crisis. He highlighted Qatar's significant role in global energy supply and the adverse effects of the attacks on international prices and production.

The Prime Minister called for Iran to cease all attacks on Gulf countries and non-combatant states, stressing the necessity for de-escalation and diplomatic resolution. He expressed hope for peaceful coexistence and the prosperity of the Iranian populace, acknowledging the impact of the conflict on ordinary Iranians.

Sheikh Mohammed also addressed the continuous assaults on energy infrastructure and civilian facilities, urging an immediate halt to the hostilities. He reiterated Qatar's commitment to dialogue with Iran in pursuit of de-escalation and highlighted the supportive role of the United Kingdom and European partners in addressing the crisis.
