London: Defending champions Liverpool suffered their first defeat of the season, falling 2-1 to Crystal Palace on Saturday in the sixth round of the English Premier League. Liverpool, who had won all five of their previous matches, were unable to maintain their unbeaten run. Crystal Palace delivered a strong performance to secure all three points and move up to second place in the standings with 12 points. Liverpool remain top with 15 points.
According to Qatar News Agency, in the opening match of the round, Manchester United were beaten 3-1 by Brentford, continuing a poor run of form. United dropped to 14th in the table with seven points, while Brentford climbed to 13th, level on points but ahead on goal difference.
Chelsea also fell 3-1 to Brighton, leaving both sides on eight points. Chelsea sit in eighth place, just ahead of Brighton on goal difference. The match saw Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah sent off in the 53rd minute.
Elsewhere, Manchester City cruised past Burnley with a 5-1 victory, lifting City to fourth place with 10 points. Burnley remain in 17th with four points.
Leeds United and Bournemouth played to a 2-2 draw. Leeds moved up to 11th with eight points, while Bournemouth climbed to third place with 11 points.
The round continues later Saturday with Tottenham hosting Wolverhampton. Sunday's fixtures include Aston Villa vs. Fulham and Newcastle United vs. Arsenal. Round six concludes Monday, as Everton take on West Ham United.
