Palestinian Prisoner Groups Report Over 9,350 Held in Israeli Jails

Ramallah: Palestinian prisoner advocacy groups revealed on Monday that the number of Palestinian prisoners and detainees held in Israeli occupation prisons has surpassed 9,350, as of early January.

According to Qatar News Agency, the total includes 53 female detainees, among them two minors, as well as approximately 350 children, who are being held in Megiddo and Ofer prisons. The organizations highlighted that the number of administrative detainees has reached 3,385, while 1,237 detainees have been classified by the Israeli authorities as "unlawful combatants."

The statement noted that this figure does not include all detainees from Gaza held in Israeli military camps under the same classification and that the designation also applies to Arab detainees from Lebanon and Syria. Nearly 50 percent of all prisoners and detainees are being held without charge, either under administrative detention or under the "unlawful combatant" designation, with administrative detainees alone accounting for more than 36 percent of the total number of prisoners held in Israeli occupation prisons.
