Palestinian Government Calls for Urgent Global Spring into Action to Confront Israel’s Declaration on Constructing 17 West Bank Settlements

Doha: The Palestinian government on Tuesday called for an urgent Arab, Islamic, and global spring into action to confront the Israeli occupation's declaration of initiating the construction of 17 new settlements in the West Bank over the next five years. The government emphasized that all these unilateral steps risk further tinderbox, stressing the importance of transition to the second phase of the war cessation plan in Gaza and accelerating the recovery arrangements and Gaza rebuilding.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Palestinian government also condemned the Israeli occupation's raid on the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem, followed by the seizure of the agency's property. The government warned that these breaches targeting a UN organization responsible for delivering services based on the UN Charter provisions could lead to catastrophic consequences.

On Monday, the Israeli occupation announced a plan to allocate 2.7 billion shekels (USD 900 million) for the construction of 17 new settlements in the occupied West Bank. This plan includes unprecedented funding to develop these settlements, build roads, register lands, and bolster defense and security.
