London: The Palestinian embassy in the United Kingdom was inaugurated Monday, marking a significant development more than three months after London recognized the State of Palestine.
According to Qatar News Agency, Palestinian Ambassador Husam Zomlot, formerly the head of the Palestinian diplomatic mission, described the event as a historic milestone: the opening of the State of Palestine's embassy in the United Kingdom with full diplomatic status and powers. This inauguration signifies an important phase in British-Palestinian relations and is a crucial step in the Palestinian quest for freedom and self-determination.
Zomlot emphasized that for Palestinians in Gaza, the occupied West Bank including East Jerusalem, in refugee camps, and throughout the diaspora, the embassy stands as evidence that their identity cannot be denied. The opening represents a symbol of hope and resilience for generations.
Additionally, Alastair Harrison, representing King Charles III, noted that the embassy's inauguration was a historic moment for Palestine and heralded the beginning of a significant shift in bilateral relations.
The United Kingdom's official recognition of the State of Palestine in September followed two years after the Israeli war of extermination in Gaza, which began in October 2023.
