Doha: Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) announced Tuesday that the death toll from heavy monsoon rains and flash floods that have hit the country since the end of June has risen to 234 and 596 injured. The authority said in a statement that the victims included 79 men, 42 women, and 113 children, noting that rescue operations and assistance to residents of the affected areas are continuing.
According to Qatar News Agency, the authority also reported that approximately 826 homes were damaged by the rains and floods, while the Meteorological Department predicted that rainfall would continue until August. Pakistan is one of the countries most affected by the repercussions of climate change, with its population of 240 million facing increasingly severe and frequent weather events.
