Overseas Voting Kicks Off in South Korea’s Presidential Election

Seoul: South Korean nationals living or staying abroad went to the polls Tuesday to pick a new president as overseas voting began ahead of the June 3 election, according to embassy officials. The out-of-country voting will run for six days, with more than 258,000 South Korean nationals, including those registered as absentee voters, eligible to vote at 223 polling stations across 118 countries.

According to Qatar News Agency, polling stations have been set up in Tokyo and other major cities like Yokohama, Osaka, Kobe, Sapporo, Sendai, and Fukuoka, as reported by South Korea's Yonhap news agency. Additionally, ten polling stations have been established in China.

The National Election Commission announced Monday that the polling stations will be established at South Korean diplomatic missions in 182 countries plus an additional 41 makeshift facilities. For the first time, overseas polling stations have been established in Cuba, Luxembourg, Lithuania, and Estonia, where South Korea recently opened new diplomatic missions.
