The National Judicial Police Brigade officers, in close coordination with the services of the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), apprehended, in the vicinity of Mohammedia and El Jadida on Tuesday and Wednesday, six individuals suspected of participating in an international drug trafficking network, seizing 11 tons and 568 kg of cannabis resin locally known as ‘chira’.
Security operations carried out in connection with this case led to the seizure of an initial shipment of drugs on board a commercial vehicle on the highway linking the towns of Bouznika and Mohammedia, weighing a total of 4 tons and 168 kg, before the driver of the vehicle and his companion were arrested at the entrance to the town of Ksar Sghir, the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN) said in a press release.
Further investigations allowed for identifying extensions of this criminal network in “El Mharza” douar (small village) on the outskirts of “Bir Jdid.” The same source emphasized that four additional suspects were arrested, and more drug shipments, totaling 7 tons and 400 kg, were seized, as well as two inflatable boats, three marine engines, 107 plastic containers filled with fuel, five vehicles, and 11 air pumps.
The detained suspects are currently in custody pending an investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecution, in order to determine the criminal charges against them and to uncover potential national and international implications of this criminal activity.
This security operation is part of the collaborative efforts carried out by the National Security and DGST services to combat international drug and psychotropic drug trafficking networks, concluded the press release.
