OpenAI Outlines Vision for Unlimited Memory in Future AI Systems

Openai: OpenAI has outlined what it sees as the next major breakthrough in artificial intelligence, saying the development of systems with near-perfect, unlimited memory would be a key step towards more powerful AI. Speaking to the technology platform Big Technology, OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman said that while recent progress across the industry has focused on improving reasoning capabilities, the next significant leap would come from advances in memory. Altman said the company's long-term goal is to enable AI systems to remember every detail of a user's life, adding that OpenAI is aiming to reach that stage by 2026. According to Qatar News Agency, Altman's comments come amid intensifying competition in the AI sector, following the recent launch of Google's latest Gemini models. Altman previously acknowledged an internal code red at OpenAI in response to rapid developments by rival companies. OpenAI figures indicate that the ChatGPT app currently has around 800 million users, accounting for roughly 7 1% of the AI applications market. This is a decrease from a market share of about 87% at the same point last year, highlighting growing competition in the sector.
